What did you notice as you stepped between the rings? Did your intentions and motivations grow, change or become more intricate?
An intention such as:
“I need to change my drinking to improve my well-being.”
Develops into:
- “I want to feel healthier and more present for my children and family.”
- “I want my work colleagues to see me as a reliable support. Changing my drinking will help me be more enthusiastic and approachable.”
- “I want to improve my relationship with my partner. Changing my drinking will make me physically and mentally healthier and mean we’ll have more quality time together.”
- “I’m fed up with hiding myself away. Not drinking will give me back some self-respect and confidence to face the world!”
In other words, what started as a simple goal to change drinking suddenly becomes an intention to change your life. And research suggests that people who had intentions about changing their life stand a better chance of success than those with just intentions around reducing their drinking.
