We already know many good reasons why we want to change our drinking, but the transition can be much easier if we allow ourselves to imagine the benefits of change.
With this in mind, take a moment to imagine you’ve already successfully achieved your goal. Imagine the very best scenario, whatever that looks like for you.
Take the time to hang out in the life you want. How does it look and feel? Good, right?
Now make a note, mental or literal, of the good that’s happened thanks to your reaching your goal. Envisage how it’s better than before and rejoice in what’s really, really good about life.
If you‘re struggling, use the positive benefits of change as pointers: sleep, social life, energy, emotions, relationships, joy, love, money or career. Focus on the improvements you would want to see in these areas. Imagine what life would look like with all of these things falling into place.
Use these thoughts and dreams as the drivers for change. Keep them top-of-mind to draw upon them as and when you need a lift.
