No two drinkers are the same, and no two journeys towards regaining control over alcohol are the same either. That’s why I developed Pep – to assist individuals in personalising and navigating their own routes to the life they want to live by changing their relationship with alcohol.

Unlike other sobriety programs, Pep enables participants to:

Embark at any point

Most AF Alcohol-free or recovery courses assume everyone is at the same point in their journey. But this is unlikely to be the case. Some people may have already changed their drinking and seek help to safeguard their gains. Others may not feel ready for change and simply want to understand better the behaviour they’re finding troublesome. Others may have enjoyed some success moderating their drinking and are now asking, “What next?”. Wherever you are with your drinking, with Pep, you can find the perfect place to embark on your journey to change.

Select the Peps that resonate

Not everyone will be comfortable embracing everything on Pep. Some may gravitate naturally to Peps, which challenges their beliefs about alcohol and drinking, while others prefer mindful exercises. And many may find their Pep preferences change as their journey progresses.

As with all sobriety courses, success lies in the participant finding a connection with the content. The modular nature of Pep makes that connection all the more likely.

Affordable, bite-sized blocks

Most Peps are 5-10 minutes long, with only a few Peps lasting over 20 minutes. They’re single-minded in their content, allowing you to focus and reflect on one element, thought, or concept at a time.

And from £1 per Pep, Pep must be one of the most accessible drinking-management courses, with the most flexibility and minor financial commitment.

At a pace that suits

The beauty of Pep is its flexibility and the ability to complete Peps at your speed. I wrote them on a Pep-a-day basis, but there is no reason why they couldn’t be more or less frequent. Please do whatever works and feels comfortable for you. Likewise, there are no deadlines and no race to the finish, and I’d encourage you to take it at your own pace. One of the programme’s most essential elements is the ability to have time to reflect and be mindful of what you’ve learned and are discovering.

Fast-forward to Peps that guide upcoming events

We can’t predict when something might happen or pause life events until we’re in a better headspace. Nor should we put change off until we see a clearer path ahead; something unforeseen will always crop up. Pep’s flexibility allows you to jump forward to Peps, providing strength in the most triggering situations.

Rewind, review and refine strategies

Not everything works the first time, every time, and like most things in life, changing our drinking requires revisiting and adjustment to achieve success. Pep’s flexibility allows you to review, refocus and try again.

About me

Hi, I’m Pep. For 25 years, I relied on alcohol to be confident around others and be content on my own. To numb depressive thoughts and depress overthinking. To wind me down and perk me up. To celebrate and console.

I don’t rely on it anymore.

What happened?

I’d always been worried about my drinking, troubled by my behaviour, and sometimes mortified by my actions (who hasn’t?). But soon after the birth of my daughter, my concerns grew as my responsibilities increased and my ability to be present diminished. I’d had enough.

I attempted to change my drinking for the following five or six years. I tried cutting down, being a ‘normal drinker’, moderating and Dry Januarys, sometimes on my own, other times with help. I had some sustained periods of success, and even though I often found myself slipping backwards, I slowly stopped looking at any attempt (or myself) as a failure. I began to learn from my experiences, recognised the progress made and built on what I’d learned. So that when I eventually decided to go alcohol-free, it felt like the most natural thing in the world.

What worked for me?

No single thing; life changes are never that simple. But if pressed, I’d say celebrating the wins and learning from the things that don’t go to plan. I believe this allows everything to move in a forward trajectory, and over time, one way or another, you arrive at your destination.

I created Pep to help individuals change their drinking by creating more wins, nurturing self-kindness and encouraging them to learn from the things that haven’t worked out.
